New Tools for Coordination and Leadership of Virtual Work
Four part series, catch up on the slides from the series below
Presented by: Doug Austrom, Betsy Merck, Bert Painter, Pam Posey
Workshop Overview
Covid-19 has greatly accelerated a fundamental change that has grown steadily over recent decades in how we go about working. It is presenting new challenges as well as new opportunities in an arena in which we are increasingly distanced geographically and socially, and in which we struggle to use technology to make up for that distancing. As good as that technology is, there are underlying new demands that it raises for our work. Traditional methods of leading and coordinating work with a dispersed workforce do not always work. We need new means of making sure that we are still working together effectively, even as we are physically distant.
This workshop helps workers and leaders understand and address the unique challenges caused by working virtually. The four-part workshop series is an interactive, hands-on learning experience that informs participants not only how to identify the new challenges working virtually creates for them, but to diagnose and resolve the barriers created by virtual work, and to dynamically design the work to improve outcomes and success. We will share practical learning, real world examples, and evidence-based findings from our 3-year National Science Foundation funded research project.
Workshop Objectives:
▰ To share diagnostic tools and design options to better coordinate and lead virtual work
▰ To provide an interactive forum to explore the new challenges of virtual work
Format:
One workshop delivered in four sequential 90-minute weekly sessions, Thursdays 10:00-11:30am (PDT) on May 14, 21, 28, and June 4
Session 1: Diagnosing the Challenges We Face in Virtual Work
Session 2: Developing Solutions to Address the Challenges
Session 3: Coordinating Virtual Work for Success
Session 4: Leading Virtual Work for Success – Putting it All Together
