Making Work Worth Doing – The Evolution of Work Design Models Towards Humancentrism – 27 March

Making Work Worth Doing Series

The Evolution of Work Design Models Towards Humancentrism

Session Date: March 27th, 10:30-10:30 Pacific Time

How is work evolving — and are we truly putting humans at the center?

On 27 March 2025, Prof. Afonso Fleury led a thought-provoking session on “The Evolution of Work Towards Humancentrism.”

Together with participants, we explored how work design has shifted over the past century — from Taylorism to Volvoism, from Japanese production systems to the emerging realities of Industry 4.0 and 5.0.

This session marked the beginning of a broader conversation on what it really means to make work worth doing — and how we can design future work systems that reflect that purpose.

  • Do ecosystems naturally promote human-centric work?
  • Will societal pressures truly drive responsible, people-first models — or is it more performative than practical?
  • What role do political and economic forces play in either enabling or limiting humancentricity at work?
